Why is Hanuman Jayanti Celebrated?
In Treta Yug, there was a Vanar(Monkey)King named Kesari and his queen Anjana on Sumeru Parvat (presently in Uttarakhand). Shree Hanuman was born at Mata Anjana’s palace.
It is believed that Anjana(an apsara) was born on earth due to a curse of Muni Vishwamitra for distracting him during his deep sadhana. He cursed Anjana that she will give birth to a monkey child. Anjana Mata worshipped Lord Shiva to be discharged from the curse and requested him to be a persona of her son. Mahadev was pleased with her devotional austerity and blessed her, the son she desired. Hence, it is believed that Shree Hanuman is an incarnation(avatar) of Lord Shiva(Rudra).
Bajarang Bali is also known as the son of the Pawan Dev (Wind Divinity). So, there are multiple distinct spiritual stories based on the Pawan Dev’s role in Hanuman’s birth.
